Udaipur was founded in 1553 by the Sisodiya Rajput Ruler Maharana Udai Singh II. The Mewar Rajputs founded the city to relocate their capital from Chittor to a more secure location. Today, most of the palaces have been converted into hotels, thus attracting a huge no. of tourist crowd to this city.
The city’s picturesque location at the foothills of the Aravalli Mountains, the state of Udaipur is a unique destination. Apart from its various palaces, forts, market places, and various temples are also the reason for its popularity. The cities are well planned and the people hospitable, the place is not only famous for its palaces and monuments, the city of Udaipur has a lot to offer its visitors.

Best Time To Visit Udaipur: 

(Oct-Mar is the best time to visit Udaipur): October to March offer the best period to visit Udaipur, though the area is pleasant around the calendar.The temperature goes down to roughly (8-9 degree celsius).

Monsoon (July to September):  make the city more humid than the rest of the year but perhaps also more lush green, enhancing the area’s natural gifts. Hence monsoon is also a good time to visit Udaipur, especially because all surrounding cities except for Mount Abu. The temperature varies from (25-15 degree) celsius, but it’s advisable to carry jackets as it tends to get chilly during the night.

Summers(April- June):  should be avoided, but travellers can still visit Udaipur. The temperature goes up to (35-40 degree celsius )during day time whereas nights are colder with around (25-30 degree celsius).

How to reach Udaipur:

By Train – Udaipur is well-connected with other cities of Rajasthan as well as India. There are frequent trains which run to and from Udaipur connecting Jaipur, Mumbai and Delhi. The luxury train Palace on Wheels is also a good option.                                          By Air – Maharana Pratap or Dabok Airport is located at a distance of 22 km from the city of Udaipur. Many domestic airlines connect the city to all the major cities of India including Jaipur, Mumbai, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. Regular air services are available for Delhi and Mumbai.                                                                                                                          By Road – Udaipur has developed a brilliant road connectivity with almost all the major cities in India. The frequency of state as well private buses is awesome and regular. One can hire taxis to drive here.

Places to visit:
1. The City Palace: Built on the banks of Lake Pichola, the City Palace in Udaipur is considered to be the largest royal complex in Rajasthan. The light and sound show that takes place between 7-8 pm. The City Palace Museum showcases well preserved Rajputana culture and pride. Lake Pichola and Doodh Talai. is just 5 mins away

 2. Doodh Talai:  Dudh Talai Lake is a dainty pond at the epicenter of the Udaipur. Encompassed by the marvelous hillocks all around, this lake holds out venturing activities of camel and horse ride.

 3. Lake Pichola:  Lake Pichola is an artificial lake located in the heart of Udaipur, Rajasthan. The oldest and one of the largest lakes of the city, the Lake Pichola observes lakhs of tourists because of its tranquillity and beauty.

Boating Price:  Tickets are available at the City Palace and it costs around INR 400-600 for adults and INR 200 for children. Charges are high for the sunset cruise. The boats have six to eight seats.

 4.Karni Mata Temple:  Located on Machla Magra Hills, nearly a km from Doodh Talai, with a stone idol of Karni Mata enshrined, the temple is accessible through a walk up the hill or a ropeway.

 5. Jagdish Temple:  The temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu is a major monument in Udaipur. Located in the heart of the city the temple is famous for the Maru- Gurjara architecture and fine white stone carvings. Aura of this place amazingly portrays the lively spirit of the city.

 6. Jag Mandir:  The boat ride to Jag Mandir Palace gives you great photo opportunities. Capture amazing views of the City Palace Complex across Lake Pichola. Take the sunset boat ride and watch the sun set over Lake Pichola for a divine experience.

Fateh Sagar Lake:  Fateh Sagar Lake, placed in the city of Udaipur in Rajasthan, is an artificial lake.It is one of the four lakes of the Udaipur city, namely the Lake Pichola (within the Udaipur town), Udai Sagar Lake (13 km to the east of Udaipur) and Dhebar Lake or Jaisamand Lake (52 km south east of Udaipur)

8. Sajjangarh Palace:  Also known as Monsoon Palace, Sajjangarh Palace is located at a peak Bansdara Mountain as high as about 944 m above the sea level overlooking the famous Pichola Lake.

9.Ambrai ghat:  Also known as Hanuman ghat, this place is our favourite. The best time to visit this place is during sunset, when the colors of sky blend beautifully with the magical reflections in lake water. Chanting of hymns and prayers with temple bells and mesmerizing sound of conch shells dissolve serenity in the air.

Hariyali Amavasya Festival (Fateh Sagar Lake)
A festival is organised during Amawasya at the Fateh Sagar Lake offering spectactular reflections of the surrounding hills in the water. The roller coasters, ferris wheels and unlimited food and sweet stalls offer a glimpse into Rajasthani culture like no other. (August-September)

Pangong Lake (Travel Guide)

The famous and sparkling blue Pangong lake is situated near Leh-Ladakh in the Himalayas, approximately at the height of 4350 meters.

The road over Chang La is kept open in winters by the Indian army. So Pangong lake is accessible throughout the year.

Season for Traveling to Pangong Tso Lake – Ladakh
In January to March, Pangong Tso remains mostly frozen, extremely cold conditions with no options to stay around the lake. In April types, it starts to melt and starts transforming into the beautiful multi shades of blue colors off the shores. Then May, June, July and August is the peak tourist season . In this summer period, a large number of birds can also be seen around the lake including the most common Bar-headed goose and Brahmini ducks.

Come September and early October, the tourists starts to reside as cold starts to set in and accommodation tents starts to pack up.. The colors are purely magical at this time of the year and with less number of tourist comparatively, you get better deals and enjoy more. After second week of October up to December, all the accommodation packs up and the only nearest place you can stay is either in some home stay with basic facilities to fight the harsh cold or in some guest house at Tangste .Tangste to see magical shades of blue color at this lake.

Camping and Homestays in Pangong

The natural setting of Pangong makes for a perfect destination for a quaint little camping adventure. If you wish to camp at the lake, you might want to consider tenting which is the only viable option. The tents are quite clean, cosy and comfortable with meals included in the package. in addition to the camps, you can also try out homestays here where local households provide accommodation. The ideal place to live is 32 kilometre from Pangong lake in a place called Tangste.

How to Get There

Travel by Air : Leh is well connected with other important places in India. Regular flights link Leh with Delhi, Jammu and Srinagar.

Travel by Train: Kalka is the nearest railway station to Leh. Buses or taxis can be hired to reach Manali via Shimla. There are regular taxis and bus services from Manali to Leh.

Travel by Road : Pangong Tso can be reached after a a five-hour drive from Leh. From Leh, one passes through the Changla Pass and then through Tangste. There are regular bus services run by state road transport corporation. Taxis can be hired from Leh to the Pangong Lake. Motorbikes, cars and jeeps are also available at reasonable rates. Make sure to fill fuel at Leh and also carry extra fuel, as there are no petrol stations near Pangong Tso.

Things to Do:

1. Dukhang– Located in the area of Leh district, Dukhang is a beautiful place of tourism which was built in the late 11th century by Kal-dan Shes-rab of Tibetan descendents. The image of Vairocana (the Buddha resplendent) is the main attraction of Dukhang and the idol is bounded by four main Buddha manifestations. It is a perfect destination to spend holidays and attracts a large number of tourists.

2 . Shanti Stupa – Shanti Stupa is a lovely attraction for tourists which is referred to a peace pillar and was founded by a Peace Sect’ of Japanese Buddhists. It is situated above Changspa in Leh and is very popular for its gilt panels which reveal the life stories of Buddha.

3. Chang La – Chang La is a beautiful tourist destination and is the third highest motorable road in the world. The name of this place has been derived from Saint Changla Baba and is 125 Kms from the Pangong Lake. This place is a high mountain pass which is located in Ladakh district and is on the route to Pangong Lake from Leh.

4. Pangong – Pangong Tso Lake remains frozen during winters, nevertheless still being a major point of tourist interest then. The lake is one of the most picturesque lakes in the country, and is untouched by commercialism, thus proving to be a very serene and scenic spot.

5. Sun Temple – A popular religious place for Hindus, Sun Temple is another holy destination to visit in Ladakh which is devoted to the Sun God, Bhaskar. It is believed that the temple is a medieval temple and was built for commemorating the Sun God by King Lalitaditya.

Facts about Pangong Lake

60 per cent of the Pangong Tso lies in China and the eastern end of the lake is in Tibet.

Pangong Tso remains completely frozen during the winter months of November to March.

it contains saline water, it completely freezes in winters. It is among the highest brackish water lakes in the world.

There is a road which connects pang gong lake with Tso Moriri lake. The route goes through Chushul, Rezang la and mahe Bridge.

Pangong Tso is coloured in multiple shades of blue and green, and beautifully reflects colours that surround it.

Note:
– First, The permit will be easily available at the Dc’s office in Leh by submitting an application. It is preferred to carry 5-6 copies of the permit as it has to be submitted at various check points. Permits are valid upto 5-6 days.

– Second , If you are travelling from Manali to Leh you can drive on Himachal Bikes number plates. Once you enter the Jammu & Kashmir border you have to drive jammu number plates vehicles . Please Travellers make sure of that otherwise you can face problem.

– Third, It is advised to carry more and sufficient warm clothes to withstand the cold weather.

– Fourth, Please consult doctor before making Trip to Leh Ladakh due to high altitude sickness.

2 . Shanti Stupa – Shanti Stupa is a lovely attraction for tourists which is referred to a peace pillar and was founded by a Peace Sect’ of Japanese Buddhists. It is situated above Changspa in Leh and is very popular for its gilt panels which reveal the life stories of Buddha.

3. Chang La – Chang La is a beautiful tourist destination and is the third highest motorable road in the world. The name of this place has been derived from Saint Changla Baba and is 125 Kms from the Pangong Lake. This place is a high mountain pass which is located in Ladakh district and is on the route to Pangong Lake from Leh.

4. Pangong – Pangong Tso Lake remains frozen during winters, nevertheless still being a major point of tourist interest then. The lake is one of the most picturesque lakes in the country, and is untouched by commercialism, thus proving to be a very serene and scenic spot.

5. Tso Moriri Lake – Moriri Tso lake is twin to the Pangong Tso Lake. Located inside the Changtang wildlife sanctuary, this lake offers a scenic place of peace and tranquility. The water body measures about 28 km in length from north to south and about 100 feet average in depth.

Altitude-sickness medication like acetazolamide may be necessary for some travellers as there are no emergency medical facilities to treat altitude sickness along the route . It contains saline water, it completely freezes in winters. It is among the highest brackish water lakes in the world.

Note:
First, The permit will be easily available at the Dc’s office in Leh by submitting an application. It is preferred to carry 5-6 copies of the permit as it has to be submitted at various check points. Permits are valid upto 5-6 days.

Second , If you are travelling from Manali to Leh you can drive on Himachal Bikes number plates. Once you enter the Jammu & Kashmir border you have to drive jammu number plates vehicles . Please Travellers make sure of that otherwise you can face problem.

Third, It is advised to carry more and sufficient warm clothes to withstand the cold weather.

Fourth, Please consult doctor before making Trip to Leh Ladakh due to high altitude sickness.
